Today one of our own, Mrs. Mamie Whitaker, who made a lasting impact on so many lives, was laid to rest. Her dedication, patience, and passion for teaching went far beyond the classroom. She didn’t just teach lessons—she shaped minds, inspired confidence, and showed genuine care for every student she encountered.
Her influence will live on through the countless students she guided, the colleagues she loved, and the community she helped. While her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue in the values, knowledge, and kindness she shared so freely.

The MMS girls and boys basketball team will be recognizing their 8th grade players in between games on Thursday (1-15-26). Game time is set for 5 pm.
The MMS basketball game vs Merriwether will be played at home on January 21, 2026 at 5:30 pm.
The middle school basketball game vs. Merriwether scheduled for Tuesday (12-16-25) has been canceled.
If your son or daughter participated in a fall sport this past season there will be a Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony held on Thursday (11-20-25) at 6 pm in the MHS gym. There is no admission fee but the player and the parents attending need a ticket. If you have questions, have your son or daughter contact their coach.
If your son or daughter cheers or plays basketball for middle or high school there will be a Parents/Coaches meeting held in the MMS gym at 5:30 pm on Monday (11-17-25).

Congratulations to the varsity football team that advanced to the first round of the 1A state play-offs. The Chiefs will travel to Blackville-Hilda on Friday (11-7-25) and will play at 7:30 pm.
The MMS football game that was scheduled for today (10-29-25) has been postponed until tomorrow (10-30-25). Game time is set for 5:30 pm.

This week, we’re celebrating Red Ribbon Week — a time to take a stand against drugs and make healthy, positive choices for our future. The national theme this year is “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free. ”Throughout the week, we’ll have fun spirit days, activities, and challenges to remind us how important it is to stay drug-free and support one another in making smart choices.
So, wear your red proudly, show your school spirit, and remember:

The Homecoming game is Friday (10-24-25) and admission will be $10 at the entrance gate. You can purchase tickets early for the price of $8. Please see Coach Pratt to buy a ticket and the last day to purchase one early will be Thursday (10-23-25).

The football game vs. JET middle school on Wednesday (10-15-25) will be played at Strom Thurmond High School and admission will be $5 (Cash only). Come and support our Chiefs!
Our 8th graders were able to attend the annual Lakelands Career Showcase to gain business insights and learn about career opportunities in multiple industries with Ms. Martin, Mrs. Whitaker, Mrs. Grove, and Coach Jones. They also learned about Piedmont Technical College programs. A big thanks goes out to the manager of Chick-fil-A Greenwood for generously providing ice cream or cookies to our 8th grade group! Way to go MMS 8th graders!

For the remainder of the day, students will have an e-learning day. This means students will access their assignments via Google Classroom and assignments must be completed by 3PM today. Chromebooks will be sent home with all students today.

I hope this message finds you well. This is a friendly reminder that the upcoming intersession period will take place from September 29th through October 2nd. If your child is attending, a transportation form is required whether they are a car or bus rider. Please turn in the form by Friday, September 19th to the front office. Forms were sent home with interims for students who were invited to intercession. Failure to turn in the transportation form by the deadline will prohibit your child from riding the bus.
