Cheer Tryouts
Good evening McCormick Middle School students, parents, and guardians. We were looking forward to a fantastic 6th grade reward trip, 6th and 7th grade awards day, and saying goodbye to our students face to face before departing for summer break.

We wanted to update you on a few items. Our 6th grade reward trip is delayed, not cancelled. We will reschedule the trip for August or September in the upcoming 2026-27 school year. We will send award certificates along with report cards in the mail. The timing of sending these out will depend on how quickly we can get back into MMS.

I was able to share how proud I am of our students and staff at the 8th grade promotion ceremony. I feel the same way about our 6th and 7th grade students. What a year! We received our first ever Excellent rating on the SC School Report Card. We were the first ever Middle School to receive the prestigious Beating the Odds designation by the Education Oversight Committee. FIRST EVER! WE are the only Middle School in the state that has a banner from them. What a tribute to our students, teachers, staff, and community. MMS was also recognized on the floor of the Senate Chambers at the Capitol Building. To top it off, we received a Palmetto Silver award from the State Department of Education. Amazing!

8th graders, you will be missed! You set the bar high for all students at MMS. You are leaving a legacy of Excellence as you move to MHS. Go Chiefs!

6th and 7th graders, we can't wait to hear about your summer and welcome you back in July. We love you and are excited about the accomplishments you will make as you continue your journey at MMS.

Parents, we will send a message out to you when we mail report cards. Thank you for your unwavering support and partnership. The best is yet to come!

Sincerely,

Dr. Skip Hopkins

Good evening! This is Dr. Hopkins, Principal of McCormick Middle School. Tomorrow, May 12, our students will resume SC READY testing in Reading. Testing will conclude the next day when our 6th grade students take the SC READY Science test. Our students and staff have worked hard this year to prepare for these important assessments. Our Winter and Spring MAP scores indicated high student growth for our school in ELA and Math. We are expecting similar results on SC READY. We need your help! Please make sure that our students get to bed early and are well rested and focused on these days. Thank you for your support this year! We love our kids and are very proud of them. Please check out our MMS website and Facebook page to keep up with our upcoming events to close out the school year. Excellent Chiefs!

Our school district does its best to offer opportunities to involve parents not only in school activities, but also as partners in the education process of the children. Please complete this parent survey using the link below to assist us in determining what kinds of activities have worked well, what activities need to be improved, and what additional activities should be included.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony, we are excited to celebrate this important milestone in our students’ academic journey. To help make the event special and cohesive, we are asking students to follow a black and white dress code for the occasion.

Attire Guidelines:

Students should wear black and/or white formal or semi-formal clothing.
Acceptable options include dresses, skirts, dress pants, button-down shirts, blouses, or polos in solid black or white.
Shoes should be appropriate for a formal event (no athletic slides or flip-flops).
Please avoid overly casual clothing such as jeans, graphic t-shirts, or hoodies.
We encourage students to dress neatly and comfortably while respecting the dress code. Our goal is to create a polished and unified look as we honor their achievements.

The promotion ceremony will take place on May 20th, 2026 at 6:00 pm in the McCormick Middle School Gymnasium. Students should arrive at least 30 minutes early.

Thank you for your support in making this event memorable for our students. If you have any questions or need assistance with attire, please feel free to contact the school.

Sincerely,
Miss Scott
