Being a teammate takes commitment and effort. In Jon Gordon's book, "Hard Hat", there are 21 ways to be a great teammate. These two staff members were chosen by their peers to be this week's "Hard Hat Award" recipients. They have been amazing teammates. They give their all and take nothing; they do things for their team, not for applause, and they are always doing things for others because they know that well done is better than well said.

One of Ms. Allen's teammates said, "She is a great teammate. She pursues excellence by giving 110% as we collaborate and teach together. She is very resourceful and committed to our students in our Science Lab classes. It is a pleasure to be a member of the Science team, where Ms. Allen demonstrates selfless compassion for everyone."

Mrs. Brighthop's teammate said, "She is always willing to help or get answers anytime you ask or need her to. She works quickly and does it was a smile on her face! Thank you, Mrs. Brighthop!"

Congratulations on being nominated and chosen by your peers, Mrs. Rucker, to receive the "Hard Hat" Award!
"Mrs. Rucker has shown great leadership and encouragement towards other teachers during this first week. I was struggling at the end of the day one day, and Mrs. Rucker took the time to talk to me. Her intentional words of encouragement and wisdom mean a lot."

Welcome to MCSD!

My name is Laura Livingston. Kindergarten is my heart, and I've been teaching it for 18 years. I'm a huge music fan, and I really enjoy reading. Traveling is one of my greatest joys. Spending time with the found family that I've built is one of my other great joys. I'm pretty unique and nerdy with a wide variety of interests, so it's hard to really nail down specifics unless it comes to music.

Welcome to MES Mr. Boyce!

Hello! My name is Lucas Boyce, and I am so excited to be the new PE teacher at McCormick Elementary School! I graduated from Lander University with an undergraduate degree in Physical Education in May of 2025. Growing up, my dream has always been to be a PE teacher. My dad was my coach, and my mom is a Special Education Teacher in Anderson School District 5. I am the youngest of four boys and grew up playing every sport imaginable with them. I am an active Chicago sports fan, except for the white socks, and love playing different sports in my free time. I am very excited for my first year of teaching and cannot wait to teach these students towards a physically active lifestyle!

It's here, it's here!

Are you ready to meet your teacher tomorrow afternoon? Parents, are you as excited as we are for your children to start back to school?

Come to Open House from 3:30-5:00 pm at MES on Wednesday!

Students' first day is Thursday morning, and to start on schedule, we are not allowing parents to walk to students' classrooms with them on the first day of school. So, you don't want to miss this opportunity to meet the teachers at Open House.

Make sure students are registered in Final Forms even if they attended school last year. You have to update their information for this year for them to be registered and attend on the first day of school.

We will be enforcing our clear bag policy for events as well as the students' first day of school.

We can't wait to see you tomorrow afternoon!

Open House
Please help spread the word!

We will have an Open House Event at MES on July 23 from 3:30-5:00 pm.

We encourage all parents and students to come to this event to meet the teacher and drop off their supplies. Parents are not going to be able to walk students into the school on the first day, so that we can get normal routines started. Therefore, this event is an opportunity for you to walk in with them and meet the teachers face to face.

We are excited about our new year and look forward to seeing you all on the 23rd at this event.
