Highlights for the Week (9/18-9/22)
Students are able to join our new Drama Club. See the attached flyer. Interested students need to get a form from the front office.
Monday -- Please join us for our Chief Time Showcase on Monday from 6:00-7:00 PM.
Tuesday -- 8th grade field trip to PTC.
Wednesday -- Dress down day -- Students had to purchase a ticket last week during lunch. Students who have paid will get a wristband Wednesday morning to confirm participation. MMS home football game has been moved to Wednesday at 5:00 against Brewer Middle.
Students who are signed up for intersession will be bringing home their schedule this week. Schedules will be personalized based on need.
The end of the first 9 weeks is on Friday, September 22. Please encourage your Chief to end strong. Report cards will be mailed home after intersession.
Due to the shortage of referee's, the middle school football game that was originally scheduled for Thursday, the 21st, against Brewer will be played on Wednesday, the 20th, at 5PM in McCormick.

It is HOMECOMING. Be sure to check out our dress up days on the attached flyer. There is no cost to participate during homecoming.
If your chief is not attending our regular intersession, but you would still like them to be involved over intersession. Please print, complete and return the Operation EAGLE (Education Activities Geared for Learning Excellence) paperwork. This paperwork is due by September 13. These applications were sent out by email on September 8th.
Regular intersession letters went home with students on September 6. They were also emailed on September 8th. That paperwork is due by September 13.
Monday--our football team has a make up game at 5:00 at Northside Middle
Tuesday--PTO meeting at 6:00
Wednesday--deadline for intersession paperwork to be turned in (regular intersession or EAGLE)
Thursday--Football game at Merriwether at 5:30
Friday--Homecoming Game at 7:30 PM
Next week during lunch, students can purchase a ticket to dress down on September 20th. This is a fundraiser for our PTO.
Homecoming/Spirit Week Sept. 11th - Sept. 15th is right around the corner. The flyer lists themes for each day that week. We hope you will participate. Go Chiefs!

Due to field conditions and Aiken County Public Schools cancelling school, MMS will not be attending the Jamboree at Ridge Spring this evening. MMS football will have practice from 3:15-5:00.
MMS Football game against Ridge Spring will be moved to Thursday, August 31 at 6:00 PM.

Picture day went well. Mark your calendars now if you want your chief to retake or they weren't here. Make up picture day is October 20th.
We will start earning chief bucks this week. Students earn chief bucks for Keeping it Real--Responsible, Engaged, Accountable Leaders. Chief bucks will be digital this year. Chief Bucks can be earned, awarded, and spent digitally using the PBIS rewards app. This app is enabled using students' IDs. So, they will be at a disadvantage if they have a temporary ID. Please encourage your chief to bring their ID.
Our football team did awesome last week at their Jamboree. This week will be scrimmaging Ridge Spring on Wednesday at 6:00 in Ridge Spring.

Our Tribal Rally on Friday was AMAZING!
Updates--Math MAP testing was moved to Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Students worked extra hard last week on MAP Reading and took a little longer than expected, so we delayed Math until this week.
7th grade parents--students must have a Tdap immunization and paperwork to our nurses by August 25. This is crucial and must be followed. Any 7th grader after August 25 who do not have this or the paperwork exempting on file with our nurses, will not be allowed to come back to school until this is taken care of.
IDs--All students have been issued school IDs at this point. Days without an ID will begin on Monday. Please help your chief come up with a system to remind them to bring their ID.
Wednesday Morning will be our first Coffee with Koeppen--please come join me in the MMS conference room at 7:30. This an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns or just hear about all the great things happening at MMS.

Students will start meeting with their Chief Time groups this week. Your child was sent an email last week to complete a Google form to select their top three choices. If your Chief still needs to complete it, he or she may complete it before 9 AM. The link can be found in their email.
We will have MAP testing on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Parent letter has been sent to your email explaining this testing.

I apologize for the late sending this week. It has been a busy weekend with family. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with condolences and comforting words in the loss of my father in law. I truly appreciate our wonderful community.

Good evening MMS Families,
We had an awesome day on Friday; It was wonderful to see everyone.
Just a heads up! WCTEL was able to get our phone systems working on Friday, but we are still without internet on Chieftain Hill. It may be out most of the day tomorrow. We will certainly communicate when it is back.
This week we will be taking our initial assessment for our new Math and ELA curriculum. These assessments will drive everything we do in Math and ELA this year. Please encourage your Chief to take them seriously and give their best effort. We truly need to know where they are instructionally to personalize instruction for each student.
ELA will be taken during ELA class on Wednesday, and Math will be taken during Math class on Thursday.
Students will begin regular schedules tomorrow. We will have new copies for everyone during our morning transition and breakfast tomorrow.
