This year, a remarkable group of thirteen students at McCormick High School embarked on a transformative journey by completing the rigorous requirements for work-based learning (WBL) opportunities. In alignment with state regulations, these ambitious students dedicated a minimum of 40 hours to real-world experiences with their chosen employers. They meticulously crafted training agreements and received invaluable feedback through two comprehensive evaluations from their employers, all essential steps toward earning credit for their WBL experience.
Each student's placement was thoughtfully matched with their aspirations as outlined in their Individual Graduation Plan (IGP), ensuring that their experiences were not just educational but also aligned with their career goals. The core objectives of WBL are to illuminate the vast landscape of potential careers, encourage students to delve into diverse career paths, and lay the groundwork for their future professional endeavors.
Work-based learning is more than just a set of instructional strategies; it is a dynamic collaboration between employers and schools, creating enriching learning experiences for students. WBL activities are crafted to provide engaging and structured opportunities, allowing students to interact meaningfully with employers or community partners. Whether in the vibrant atmosphere of their classrooms, bustling worksites, or the diverse locations of employers, students are immersed in opportunities that bridge the gap between education and the professional world.
