Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Melissa Cockrell
I am the Curriculum/STEAM Facilitator at McCormick Elementary School. This is my fourth year serving the students and teachers of MES. Prior to becoming an instructional leader, I taught elementary school for nine years and middle school reading intervention for one year. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and consider myself to be a life-long learner. I am excited to share that I recently began pursuing my Doctorate of Education in the area of School Administration and Supervision. I've earned a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University, and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of South Florida. In addition to these degrees, I have completed additional coursework in for certification in elementary education, literacy teaching, literacy coaching and gifted and talented instruction. I love working with students and teachers in the elementary setting.
I am married with four children, ages 7, 9, 12 and 14. My husband is a native of Edgefield, while I grew up in central Florida and moved to the area about 13 years ago. As a family, we enjoy camping and being outdoors as often as possible. I also enjoy reading, writing, and anything craft-related.
I look forward to seeing what new opportunities our unique 2020-2021 school year will bring!
