Special Education

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that requires every school system in the nation to provide a free and appropriate public education for every child, ages 3 to 21, regardless of how seriously that child may be disabled. 

IDEA covers 13 specific types of disabilities: 

Students that qualify for a disability under IDEA may also receive special education and related services. A special education program should be customized to address each individual student's unique needs through an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special educators provide a continuum of services, in which students with special needs receives varying degrees of support, based on their academic and/or functional needs.
