This year’s contest theme is "Life During COVID-19." Poems featuring this theme will be given preference. The 2021 contest has been opened to students across the state with categories for elementary (grades K-5), middle (grades 6-8), and high (grades 9-12) school students now through March 15, 2021. Please, keep in mind that each category will be capped at the first 100 submissions.
Finalists for each category will be announced in mid-April, and winners will be invited to read their poems in a virtual Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 30, 2021. The reception will feature Charleston’s Poet Laureate, Marcus Amaker.
