  • LEAP DAYS:

The South Carolina General Assembly has approved funding for five additional days before the start of the 2020-2021 school year for students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade. These days have been identified as Learn, Evaluate, Analyze and Prepare (LEAP). Please note there are no LEAP days for 9th through 12th grade students.

All current social distancing guidelines will be followed. Your child may wear a mask. This is especially encouraged for older students, but is not mandatory. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Bus transportation will be provided if needed.

We will use the LEAP days to focus on the following for all students:

    • Orienting students with new teacher(s)
    • Diagnostic and assessment activities
    • Social and emotional connections with peers and staff
    • Establishing routines and procedures relating to Covid-19 (ex: social distancing)

While we have already invited selected students in grades K4-8, we would like to extend the invitation to anyone in these grade levels who would like to participate. If you are interested in your child attending and did not receive a letter, please contact your child's principal.

The students will attend August 3-7 from 8 am - 12 pm.
If you are taking part in the extended invitation, your child will be assigned one day to participate in the program.

  • Information about the Start of School

Last week, a special called board meeting was held to discuss the reopening of school.  Three different calendars were presented, and our school board of trustees voted to approve Calendar A.  This means that all teachers and staff will report back to work on Monday, August 10th, and the first official day of school will be Monday, August 17th for students.  While we are monitoring DHEC numbers closely, our current plan is to open school with a hybrid model.  This means that students will attend school on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays for face-to-face instruction, and will receive virtual instruction on the off days.  Fridays will be utilized for remediation, enrichment and deep cleaning of our buildings to ensure the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff.  If you are unsure of which days your child has been assigned to attend school in our hybrid model, please contact your child’s principal.  Please note that we are also offering a virtual academy for any families that do not feel comfortable in sending their children back to school for face-to-face instruction.  If you need more information regarding our virtual academy, please contact your child’s school.  Lastly, please note that our plan for reopening school remains fluid. Our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We will look forward to seeing all of our Chiefs back soon!

  • From Coach Salliewhite, AD

I would like to inform everyone that effective immediately all McCormick County Athletics are suspended until further notice. There is a level of uncertainty with the number of  COVID-19 cases in surrounding areas increasing daily. As athletic director, I want to protect my coaches and student athletes to the best of my ability. I hope each of you understand and respect this decision from the athletic department. However, I will revisit this decision on July 13th and make a sound decision with everyone in mind. I am going to take the next week to evaluate the COVID-19 cases and how other athletic departments are moving forward.
